What started out as a wedding blog, quickly fell into an everything blog -- which is exactly what i didn't want. I'm not as popular, or as crafty, or as talented as half of the other people running these amazing blogs, and i'll admit -- i much prefer reading them, than attempting to write about something i only know a little bit about.

So i've decided to close down Cake for two. No, the wedding's not off, and no i didn't recieve any hatemail for anything. I just think i could do a lot better talking about something i actually know something about ;-)

This isn't the end of my "blogging career" either, just -- the end of Cake. So Farewell my entire four followers (and maybe family?). Perhaps in the future (once the wedding nears) I'll open this back up and update with things worthwhile -- but until then, goodbye :-) it was fun while it lasted.
This past week has been a flurry of emotions, illness, and pretty much everything else that wasn't attached to the ground. Not only did i not get my bikini tops photographed, but i've hardly worked on my nightie at all. I have very little completed in just about anything and honestly, today's been the first day since last monday that i felt like i could actually accomplish something. (and oooooh accomplish i have! kind-of...)

Monday, it seemed everything that was going to go wrong, did. I swear it was like i'd somehow left the house on Sunday and have run over 13 black cats, rampaged through a mirror and A-ladder warehouse, floated to safety indoors with an umbrella, only for me to knock over a container of salt on the way down all in some quasi-dimension where every day is Friday the 13th. UGH. Monday was horrible. There was arguing, there was slammed cabinets, there was screaming. The worst virus we've ever managed to obtain fixed itself into our desktop (that holds every family photo, every important file, every piece of information we've EVER downloaded) and for the first and ONLY time, i wasn't able to remove it. (Fuck you Vista Security 2011, i hope you die in a fiery pit of rabid monkey excrement.) On top of this, everyone in the house decided it would be a good day to get batshit upset over video games. Not just "damn, i died again." but "AGH ARASGDLAIWEGLK FRIKKIN GHOSTS CAMPING THE GRAVEYARD" and "DAMN SPY KEEPS SAPPIN' MAH SENTRY! ASDGOIAWSELKNG RAGGLEFRAGGLEBURR!" and etc. It seemed like i was the only person in the house who was sane for the moment. o.O

Tuesday comes. Tuesday was slightly better. I had expected to get OUT of the house and go on a picnic -- but because of the previous night, i had been up all night with a migraine and didn't get to sleep until about 9:00 in the morning-- thus, not waking up until around 5:00pm. (Note: Sleeping schedule is still WAY OFF because of that.) Also, it rained. A lot. However things were slightly better all-in-all. Frustration with video-games still made it's way far into the evening, but it was significantly better than the previous night.

However, none of this was as bad as it got Wednesday.

Wednesday morning, i fell asleep cuddling Jim -- swaddled in our 4 comforters like adorable little butterflies waiting to spring forth into the beautiful morning sunshine! Until the nightmare came...

(I'm quoting this from a letter to my friends i had made where we discuss dreams and problems...)

" Jim and I were driving around the north end of Terre Haute, (Plaza north area) and he was really really quiet. I asked him what was wrong and he kept ignoring the question until finally i refused to get out of the car unless he told me what was the matter. He sat back down in the driver's seat and confessed he'd gotten a call that morning from his doctor who explained to him that they finally found the cause of his arithmea, and that it wasn't good. I figured at worst it could be AIDS or Cancer or something and we'd get through it together, but instead he pulled out his itouch and showed me a webpage page explaining the disease he had, and that 20 years after the disease becomes active, it strikes again but harder. This disease had been the cause of his coma, his extreme fevers that scare me constantly, and even the splotches we thought were birthmarks as well as the arithmea, and that on the anniversary of his coma, it was due to strike again. That day, was today. I got really upset and asked him what we could do -- shouldn't he be in a hospital or something?? And he explained that his doctors told him there was really nothing left to do but live out your last day like you'd want to, because they have yet to find a cure as it's so rare they can't study it properly, and once the victim dies all traces of the disease vanish. (It's turning out like a weird episode of Supernatural, except without the demons.) So he explained that unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of money, so we went to have Ritter's (a frozen-yogurt place) and then meandered through BigLots without buying anything because if he bought anything for me it would just remind me of our last day together, and we couldn't buy anything for our future apartment, because there wasn't going to BE a future. We eventually parked our car in the plaza north parking lot and did things one last time. When we woke up, i thought everything was going to be fine and that he'd made it through, that the doctor's were idiots! We went to the park to celebrate and walk the paths as the sun rose, and then he fell. Huge fit of seizures started wracking his body and i forgot what to do for like, 10 minutes. Finally, i managed to -- with the help of an extremely nice woman -- help him into the car once the big seizures had worn off and he was merely shaking and disoriented. I took his keys, cell phone and itouch and drove him to Union (the hospital in the north end) and admitted him, but they wouldn't let me go back to see him because i "wasn't immediate family" and they didn't believe me that i was his fiance since my ring didn't have a diamond on it. I got PISSED. Six hours later, they came into the waiting room and told me that he'd passed away, that they'd basically had to euthanize him because of the amount of pain he was in. They said it was the only thing they could have done for him. I -- of course -- sobbed like crazy and fell to the floor hysterically. THEN they told me i could go in and see his lifeless body. His dad (who works at Union) rushed in after a minute and hugged me, telling me everything was going to be okay and that he'd take over things from here, and that i could just go home and relax and that i'd "always be a part of the family". So he shooed me out the door and i sat outside on the steps shaking and confused. I didn't want to go home, i didn't want to go anywhere, i just wanted to drink myself stupid until the world didn't exist anymore, and i wanted to be with people i loved. I posted with his itouch on facebook that i needed as many friends as i could gather, and it was an emergency. One of my friends (Name omitted for privacy) messaged me back asking me what was wrong. I confided in her and she explained they'd be down in a few hours to help as well as they could. So i sat. Plopped on the Hospital steps waiting for literally ANYONE i knew to come pick me up and help me forget everything."

A knock sounded on the door, and i awoke, tears in my eyes and clinging to Jim with a death-grip. My mum had come to wake us and tell me we needed to head out to Grandpa's. The amount of relief that washed over me seeing Jim open his eyes and smile at me was enough to bring me to tears, so instead of having him watch me blubber and cry (because i know it makes guys feel awkward when girls do that...) I rushed into the bathroom and showered. (Although i ended up clinging to him and crying anyways later on in the bedroom..)

But no, the nightmare wasn't the end of it...

The night before, Jim had made Melon Pan. (Some kind of Japanese bread wrapped in a sugar cookie. He had made them look like turtles even). But because they smelled burnt and the bottoms were growing dark, he pulled them out sooner than the timer had said. We'll get to why that's relevant later...) He munched on a couple for breakfast and we headed out the door -- all of us piled into the Stranger-Danger-Mobile and we made our way to West-T to see Grandpa. Heck, we even stopped by the store to grab an Apple Pie!
The day was looking infinitely better! We got to Maryvale, ate pie, laughed, showed grandpa my projects i'd been working on, and Jim fell asleep on the couch because he was exhausted (i didn't blame him, we hadn't gotten more than 3 hours of sleep!)
Into the car we went and made our way to Krogers to pick up dinner. About Applebees, Jim mentioned he wasn't feeling good. Carsick maybe? It wasn't uncommon... We stopped discussing meals to help with his stomach, and all seemed great in the world. Until we got to Krogers.

As soon as the van pulled into the parking lot...

He spewed. All over the baby blanket he'd been knitting, all over the back of mom's seat, all over himself. It was the first time i'd seen pure white vomit, and i'd started worrying if something was seriously wrong, until i remembered he'd only eaten Melon Pan that morning, and it was white. Mum's Super-mom instincts kicked in, and we had him out of the van and into her clean powder-blue jacket in seconds. He seemed dizzy and quiet, so girlfriend-mode switches on, and i drag him into Krogers bathroom where he cleans up and mum eyes the expensive South-Braves T-shirts...

So now he's freezing, but clean, and the van's a little less rancid. So when mum comes out with the Febreeze, we all rejoice and commence the cleanup on the way home. Where dad forgot the keys to the house before we left. So we try opening my window -- no go. We try dad's window. Nope! Basement door? There's a crutch wedged under the doorknob to keep people from getting in and to keep it closed, so nope. We didn't want to bust open the back doors, because then we'd have direct cold air rushing through into the kitchen and living room! While Jim and Chance and I are freezing in the van, we watch Dad and Mom inspect the rest of the house, trying to find a way to break in with the least amount of damage.

FINALLY, Dad manages to find his lockpick for just such an occasion, and manages to get his way through the garage door, the craftroom door, AND the side-door next to my room. Yay! Warmth! I let everyone else take care of groceries while i rush my man into the bathroom and tell him to warm himself up in the shower and clean off all that vomit while i make the bed so he can rest.
About 15 minutes go by, and we realize the shower's quiet. Nothing's interrupting the flow of water and it's been this way for a good 10 minutes or so. Mom panics. "Mindy? I just knocked on the bathroom door and he's not answering. You mind checking for me? I don't want to embarrass him!"
Of course, he's my fiance right? So i knock on the door and call a little louder. "Babe? You okay??" Nothing. "Baby?" I peek through the door and holler. "Hun, are you alright? We're getting worried?" Silence. "Babe!?" Instantly my heart begins to race and i rush into the teeny tiled room and rip aside the shower curtains, where he's slumped over on the floor, his head nearly in his lap, eyes closed.
In a matter of 10 seconds my mind replayed my dream... each horrifying detail of him dying and me having no way to help him. Before i scream "CALL 911!" I decide to see if i can shake him awake. Just touching his shoulder makes his head shoot up and he stares at me sleepily. "Wha?" "You okay!?" "Yeah, just getting warm. Why?" "Because we've been screaming for you for like, 10 minutes!" "Oh. Sorry. Must have had water in my ears."
It was later uncovered he had fallen asleep -- which by all means? i don't blame him! (I've fallen asleep standing up in the shower so often it's rediculous...) but it made my heart leap up into my throat. 3 minutes later he was in pyjamas kissing me goodnight and off to bed. (While he was in my bed with a bucket just-in-case, i slept on the couch. I love him with all my heart, but i don't wanna be woken up by vomit-to-the-face. Ugh!)
Mum and I talked about what had made him sick, and discovered what was left of the Melon Pan sitting in a container on the counter. Remembering it had bread inside, and him having asked for the yeast earlier -- we broke it open. Or rather, peeled it open. Inside, the dough was not quite set and smelled so strongly of yeast i just about urped myself. They were disposed of immediately as i can almost guarantee you it was the cause of the whole incident. (Ingesting raw bread dough doesn't exactly make for a good meal these days o.O Especially not when your father-in-law-to-be drives the van and makes it feel like you're swaying side to side on a boat... More Seasick than Carsick.)

Luckily, things were better that evening. He was able to hold down some plain toast, and later some chicken and noodles. Feeling ambitious, he even made himself some french toast for lunch later-on.

So yeah, things were a little hectic around here, and getting my sleeping schedule back in order has been a task in and of itself, so until i can get things all set up again, i'm going on Hiatus. I promise i'll keep in touch though and let you know what's going on. (It won't be more than 2 weeks tops, i'm not leaving ;-D)

So in the meantime, keep crafting, and leave some messages! I'd love to see what kind of stuff you guys have been up to! (And i'm always ready to take a look at some of your favorite artists/websites/etc. I need some for the Friday posts!)

To elaborate, the main computer is fried thanks to a fucking virus somebody got from porn-surfing (gee, thanks guys. really. We didn't have to USE it or anything...) On top of that family arguments/issues have become too much for me.

I will attempt to post tomorrow after today has officially gone to hell and died a flaming death of doom and destruction.
Because i did. It wasn't until Jim got out of the shower and started putting on his khaki's and work-shirt did i realise "o.O fuck. it's friday." So dearest apologies. I'll be more on-time with these in the future.

This Friday's spotlight is on one fantastic artist! I am seriously in love with this woman, her artwork, the storyline, everything! Her name? Pia "Yapi" Santiago. (or better known in my household as "*SQUEEEE!*") With her birthday coming up tomorrow (and for another excuse to stalk her...) i figured i would feature her this week and make her feel all warm n' fuzzy inside (or totally creeped out, one of the two...)

I first discovered 30 year old Yapi from the Phillipines (that must be an amazing place to be from. seriously. I have too many wicked friends that are Filipino... The food ain't half bad either!) -- and her kickass Troll men while looking for examples of my favorite Warcraft race on Deviantart and stumbled across her infamous Meiles. (insert drool here.) (My version of him looks like a backwards naked school portrait somewhere o.O but eh it's free fanart right?)

(Tell me you wouldn't want to nom on that all night!)

Though the story of these two mismatched lovers isn't written down anywhere publicly available (damn!) her little snippets into the lives and histories are always a welcome sight in my inbox! Don't get me wrong though, she draws much MUCH more than just sexy, scrumptious, jamaican-accent'd, blue guys with tusks and pudgy, adorable, squishy elves -- but they're my favorites (and I'm looking forward to Jim and I's anniversary because i am so going to commission her for a pic of Illo, Al, and Valkyron -- Though that commish might end up somewhere other than Deviantart... *wink wink*)

On top of her Warcraft art, she also does some pretty wicked commissions including (but not limited to:) Mermaids, Rhino-men, TMNT, Bleach, and a variety of other mesmerizing bits of fanart. This month, in honor of her birthday, she started $5 sketch commissions, as well as a free raffle for a small bit of art that has her fans clamoring for positions -- i myself entered and am on pins and needles to see who wins!

So if you haven't been over to <strike>stalk</strike> favorite her yet, go do so! Her livestreams are always fun, she's super bubbly, and hell i bet she'd even treat you to some singing if you asked real nicely!

Congratulations Yapi m'luv for being awesome enough to grab an entire post to yourself today! I'll be awaiting my restraining order eagerly XD

-Cake42

P.S. -- you have NO idea how hard it was to find art of hers that wasn't done for someone else >.< So you get Meiles twice. (quit complaining and drool already.)

(Monday, you guys get to see my unmentionables as well as a project i hope to finish before next winter o.O)

Meaning of course everyone is getting their tax checks! Time to pony up and get that used car, or a vacation, or for people like me and jim -- a 300 dollar shopping spree at the hobby store!!!
So on top of all the special yarn and sketchbooks and antique-looking treasure chests we found (a long with many "booty" related pirate jokes...) I managed to grab some modeling clay. For a seriously long time, i've been oggling those teensy tiny miniatures that so many of you out there make daily. Cakes, sweets, ocotopi (I totally have a hidden love for octopi and squids...), chibis, entire kitchen sets -- all mini-sized!! (It makes me SQUEE!) And i'll admit -- i was a little jealous. How could these people possibly be so talented as to make play-doh look like delicious moist decadant cake!?
Well, first off i found out that it's not play-doh. It's called "modeling clay". (Which i guess technically Play-doh could be called that too, but just work with me here...) The difference between them is actually really simple. (i.e: i learned it on google this morning.)

Water-based clays -- These clays are often air-drying like Cold Porcelain (and play-dough... except play-dough looks moldy when it dries. Ick...). They don't usually need baking (although you can) and they need to be kept in an air-tight container if un-used. They WILL eventually dry out though.

Oil-based clays -- These clays are called "non-drying" or "never-drying" because there's no water to evaporate (thus drying it). In order for you to keep your creation when it's finished, you have to take two things into consideration:

Is it a Plasticine clay? -- Plasticine clays are clays that will never ever ever EVER dry out. Meaning literally, it will last pretty much forever. It'll get stiff when it gets cold, but it will never truly harden and can always be smushed if it falls or if your little sibling wants to play with it. The good points? It's easily remodle-able and you have an infinite amount of time to scrutinize over something without worrying if it's going to dry. This is awesome for making temporary molds, stop-motion animations (Gumby!) or just letting your kids play with it until they get tired and you don't have to go out and buy more brand-name "art dough" for 20 bucks. The stuff is cheap and colorful and easily available! The cons? It NEVER FRIKKING DRIES.

Is it a Polymer clay? -- Polymer clay is like the stuff of the frikkin' gods. It can dry in the air, you can bake it and let it harden and use it for all kinds of stuff. Cover a box with it, make my little ponies out of it -- pendants, charms, earrings! (oh my!) this stuff has endless possibilities. (Hell it even comes in "translucent" and liquid forms!!

So of course today i decided to break open my $15 box of 18 bright assorted colors and see if i couldn't make the My little pony of my dreams! Only problem? The box was merely labled "Creative Art Clay". No ingredients list, no baking time, hell there wasn't even an address o.O!! Was it Polymer? Plasticine? What the hell was this shit!?
In the name of all things crafty, i quickly picked the ugliest color i had (nasty orangish-pink-salmon-barf) and formed two cubes (turning them into dice with a few holes poked into them in case this actually worked...) and set the oven for 250 degrees (average baking temp from what i googled). Once the thing was preheated and ready to go, i set the timer for 15 minutes and waited....
Seven minutes later.... i found goo. All. Over. My. Mom's. Pan.
On the plus side, i found out it was Plasticine clay!! Bad side? The vision of my perfect pony fell out of my hands quicker than i could have sketched them down....
So what's a girl to do with (essentially) 15 bucks worth of the most expensive play-doh in the craft store?

The most amazing piece of polymer geekery i've ever laid eyes on! Lookit that! It's pure polymer, but it looks like it's been knitted to perfection! Sheesh, it takes me forever to get regular cables right, let alone clay ones! o.O They've also got a few other wonderful pieces they've worked on such as knitted ornaments made of clay. So pretty! Want! (Also i'm completely head-over-heels for their "knitted heart brooches" to the point where i would sell a kidney to own one. o.O)

Internet Geekdom cannot truly be achieved of course, until one has done something "Bacon"-y. Whether it be partaking in bacon breathmints, cooking bacon turtles, or even knitting a bacon scarf, bacon has become a huge part of our internet culture. (Hell, there's even a website dedicated to it o.O) So when i saw solar_jazz's "Deceptively Delicious Earrings" i couldn't help myself.

After all, that's how i found Christopher Blake and his teeny tiny wonders of pure awesome-sauce.

(Squee!). He says he'd love to have a giveaway for every 100 followers he gets, so why not pop over and see what he's got at his blog? If not for the future giveaways, then to check out his itty bitty nom-ables!

I'll openly admit it. Peanut butter makes me excited. Not like "OMG WATERPARK!" excited, i mean like "let's put on some Barry White and cuddle" kind of excited. (*wink wink, nudge nudge*) So needless to say, when Valentine's day came around, i had to make something involving peanut butter.

If you could see my favorites, you would probably be as confused as hell. I have unorganized pages and organized folders everywhere. The most recent of which, have been recipes and tutorials from Craftster, so when i went looking through my abomination of a favorites list for something peanut butter -- i had plenty to choose from!

This week's Awesome-Monday-Craft-Slash-Recipe-Thingy (need to find a better name for that...) is of course Redflags' luscious "Chocolate-covered oatmeal peanut butter sandwich cookies"

These cookies -- despite the horrible twinge of pain in my mouth from a missing cap -- were to-die-for! They were soft and gooey and almost exactly like those oatmeal cream pies from Little Debbie, except with more peanut butter and drizzled in chocolate! Although Redflag's turned out much much prettier and perfectly round, they were still snapped up quicker than i could sandwich them!

Ingredients: (This is still Redflag's recipe, i'm merely making comments where i changed things)
(cookies)

1 1/2 cups Flour (All purpose)

1 tsp baking soda (I attempted to double the batch and added too much, they ended up spreading out super thin)

1 tsp baking powder (i probably didn't add enough of this!)

1 tsp salt

1 cup butter (2 sticks softened)

1 cup peanut butter (I used creamy here too, my boy hates chunky lol)

1 cup white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup quick cooking oats

(filling)

6 tbsp butter (softened)

2 cups powdered sugar

1 cup creamy peanut butter (do not use crunchy here. It'll be icky.)

5 tbsp heavy cream (we bought heavy whipping cream instead. not sure if it's the same thing, but it turned out perfect!)

(for the drizzle)

1 bag of your favorite chocolate chips/melting chocolate (12 oz)

3 tbsp shortening

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (She forgot to add that to the original recipe, but it's posted in the comments later.)

Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt

In a separate bowl cream the butter, peanut butter, sugars, and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time incorporating each one thoroughly before adding the next.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix. Add the oats.

Drop by rounded tablespoon onto a parchment lined (or in my case cooking spray'd) baking sheet and flatten. (If you don't flatten them, they turn out kinda lumpy and oddly shaped. But don't flatten them too much, or they'll goo everywhere and will be burnt cracker things.)

Cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. (Like she mentions, they're going to look like they're not finished. They are. Let them finish cooking/cooling on the pan before you remove them.)

While cookies are cooling, make the filling by pretty much just dumping all the "filling" ingredients into a bowl and mixing it. you can't really go wrong with it. (You will have to have a wooden spoon handy to smack any boyfriend-vultures away though, or you will not have any left to fill the cookies with. Same with the cookie dough!)

To make the chocolate drizzle (Which we totally forgot to do and ended up just microwaving some hershey's chocolate chips and sticking it in a piping bag...) Place your favorite melting chocolate in a double boiler. Melt with 3 tbsp of shortening and stir until completely smooth.

Assemble the cookies by globbing a tablespoon of filling onto the bottom of a cooled cookie. Place another cookie (top up, so the bottoms face eachother) on top and smush down carefully so the filling distributes evenly. Set aside.

Place your chocolate in a ziploc baggie or a piping bag, and snip off the end (tiny!) drizzle warm gooey goodness in a zig-zag pattern (or smiley face, or hypnotic swirls, or pretty much whatever you like.. it's your cookies!)

OM NOM NOM until they're gone. (Okay i added that last part...)

Anyways, these cookies are da bomb. However, due to the fact that boy was impatient and i was sore from bending over the stove/sink all day, they turned out a wee bit soggy. We ended up refridgerating them to firm them up and ended up letting them get REALLY hard. (Which is still good, they were amazingly tasty...) but they did give me the worst tooth pain in ages. Seriously, these things are rich. It was hard to eat more than one at a time o.O

When someone starts a blog, they intend for people to read it. Whether or not they get many viewers at first, there's always that hope that somewhere on the other end of the twisted web, that someone is watching. One of those people, clinging to the very dream that someday she'll become famouse beyond reason, is Allie. Allie owns the quirky, strange, and oh-so-addicting blog "Hyperbole and a Half". Part blog, part webcomic, it's become one gigantic flaming mess of dinosaurs, talking spaghetti noodles, childhood trauma, and bears. Lots and lots of bears. Oh, and cake. In her (first) "About me" section, Allie describes herself as "Heroic, caring, alert, and flammable". Her sense of humor is a lot like my own -- twisted, childish, and seriously random -- but hers is definitely more addictive.

My personal favorites from her extensive archive (which i may or may not have spent 6 hours pouring through...) would have to be Spaghatta Nadle -- the previously mentioned spaghetti noodle who speaks ... with a speech impediment. It's not only adorable, but he's got a lovable attitude! Completely quirky and unexpected he continues on for a few other episodes (4 or 5... possibly more i forget XD) and i personally would love to see just a webcomic of him every morning in addition to my already 13 comics i read daily. (Dear god is it really that many??)

I stumbled upon Allie's blog from a wall post between my friends on Facebook -- it might have been "God of Cake" or "Dog's don't understand basic concepts like moving" episode. Her comics are interesting, the stories hilarious, and the behind-the-scenes action is just icing on the cake, and i would gladly spend another all-nighter reading through her repitoire of weird all over again.

Allie's want for internet domination (or at least global fame...) seem to be growing exponentially and i'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next blog post. If you love her quirkiness as much as i do, you can get even more of it from the forum "VERY SERIOUS" -- which is anything but. (Especially if you like dinosaurs and doodling in MS paint.) If you're bored, go check it out. If you're not, go anyways and meet some of the strangest, most off-the-wall people i've ever laid eyes on and enjoy yourself!

Congrats Allie, you've officially become my first Spotlight post, and hopefully this will help propel you a little higher on the "lookit me i'm famous!" ladder. [insert heart thingy here that blogspot hates, because it includes a less-than sign...]
A dork, a geek, a twisted freak of nature who's utterly and completely obsessed with all things gaming with a sprinkle of reading and crafting thrown in. For those who missed Saturday's post, Every Wednesday is now dedicated to my nerdly obsessions. This week, we're focusing on the nerdiest craft projects that have ever hit the web, and have a close place to my heart.

We'll start with something i'm actually familiar with: Yarn!

Through my daily <strike>stalkings</strike> meanderings through Craftster, i happened upon an extremely colorful purse! (And me, being the purse-whore i am, immediately hit ctrl+d...)

What's more, it's based after the board game "Settlers of Catan"! Unfortunately, i've never played this game, and up until i saw this purse i'd never even heard of it o.O So what does a girl do when she's intrigued? Wiki.

I must admit. I've never really been one for making potholders... when you think about it, they seem like the most boring thing to make o.O They're just squares of fabric you use to grab things out of the oven with, right? Oh boy am i wrong o.O

Adaiha has managed to convince me with a single photo, that everything i ever thought about potholders was wrong. o.o Not only can they be beautiful additions to your kitchen theme and color scheme, but they can also be fun to make! They don't have to be squares (as any person on Ravelry could have told me...) hell, they can even be freakin' Celtic knots.

Lookit that! How perfectly awesome could one potholder/trivet be?? Okay, so i guess it's technically not a "Celtic Knot" -- as she calls it a "woven circles trivet" but damnit it's celtic enough for me! And i love it. Adaiha, you win an internet m'dear.

Up next, i've featured something that's been on the news a lot recently. The zodiac.

(I myself, am a Scorpio and Jim's a Leo)

I frikkin love this blanket/throw. Ever since i was little i've been enamored with the stars -- hell, every time i got upset or worried i loved to look at Orion's belt like it was my personal formation in the sky. (Kinda like XKCD said here....) Nevertheless, i love it. Crocheted in Tunisian stitch (something i've yet to quite master with my teeny Tunisian hook...) i envy them! Wonderful work m'dear. You too, win an internet.

Though i have yet to actually read/play anything involving "Cthulu" i must say he's quite a character. Seen in everything from Scribblenauts, to plushies, to tea cozies this squid-faced behemoth has won my heart. (and probably my soul, but for such cuteness i'd probably give it willingly anyways.)

There are literally thousands of patterns for this squishy squid-guy, but these here are a few of my favorites:

Amigurumi Cthulu -- Squid squee!

Cthulu Sock monkey! (Okay, not really knitted or crocheted... but it's Cthulu. Nod and smile.)

And of course how can we end our yarn-craft section without a nod to the longest running game in the history of "WTF ANOTHER?" -- Final Fantasy.

Yes my friends, that is indeed the most adorable Chocobo amigurumi pattern you've ever laid eyes on -- and the lovely phantasmafreud has oh-so-lovingly written out the pattern for you all for free. You should go shower them with love and affection and promptly go make your own cuddly bird-buddy. DO EET.

Still yarn-related but not quite, ammasmama has ingeniously created a tutorial on make-your-own resin knitting needles!

I'm sure with a little bit of know-how and a few power tools you could probably fashion crochet hooks as well (Ooooh! Custom Tunisian! :-o) But nevertheless, her tutorial is genius! The ingredients are slightly toxic so gas masks are definitely a requirement, but the McDonald's straws are just perfect. Who ever woulda thought? lol. Head over to her tutorial here and go make your own --

But before you go sticking buttons and doodads on the backs of your newly created glitery stabbing tools, Check out what you could be putting on the ends of them instead to complete your nerdery:

Companion Cube-ry!

I myself have never really worked with canes (or clay much for that matter o.O) But these make me want to buy as many pretty shiny colors as i possibly can and cane away! Think of how many adorable Portal-themed charms you could come up with? Stitch markers? Buttons? Endcaps for the needles above? Muahahahahaha the possibilities!!

Next Week i'll be showering you all in girliness, glitter, and all things nerderiffic -- but if you have a completely dorky/gamer/geeky/nerdish project you'd love to show off, feel free to drop me an email or a comment! I'd love to see what you've got!!

-Cake42

Welcome to Monday, the most glorious -- oh who am i kidding nobody's thrilled it's monday. (On a similar note, i seriously cannot stand Garfield. I want to watch him burn in a hobo fire with great fiery passion.)

BUT! in the honor of it being my new blogging schedule (and the fact that i've noticed i can have this post written on a thursday and posted on a monday....) I've decided to grace you all with my shit-tastic photography skills. Enjoy.
This week's awesome noms were inspired by the extremely tasty Food People Want because for ages i've been craving Crab Rangoon. Not just like "Oh, it sounds pretty good, i'll get that the next time i go to the mall", i mean like Holy crap this is what it must feel like to be pregnant, i need it NOW kind of craving. (No, i'm not pregnant.) So Jim -- my loving tolerant sweet sweet fiance Jim... -- did the most wonderful thing in the world for me the other day, and bought the stuff to make homemade rangoons. (Baby, i love you!)
We found Michael Parlapiano's gorgeous blog from our daily searches on Foodgawker. We wanted a recipe that was simple, wasn't too overcomplicated with ingredients we didn't have -- just pure sweet rangoon -- and my god did this recipe deliver!

(Please note i may or may not be having a love-affair with Jim's Camera. I am not a photographer by any means -- (as you can obviously see) -- but this camera really makes me want to try o.o)

We live in Indiana, so getting fresh crab isn't always easy. (or cheap!) So unfortunately, we had to go with the pre-packaged fake crab. But damnit it was still tasty!

Ingredients:

1 8oz Package of fake crab sticks

1 8oz Block of cream cheese (softened)

1/2 tsp Worchestershire sauce (Fact: I cannot pronounce that word for the life of me. Same with "Tranquilizer")

1/2 tsp Soy sauce

1/2 tsp Grated ginger

1/2 tsp Lemon juice

1-2 green onions, sliced paper-thin (we omitted these because dad won't eat anything with the word "onion" in it...)

Ground black pepper to taste

Store-bought wonton skins

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp water

1 egg yolk

Oil for frying

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine the crab meat and cream cheese until combined.

Add the W-sauce, Soy Sauce, ginger, Lemon juice, green onions, and pepper and mix well.

In a small bowl or cup, mix together the water, cornstarch, and egg yolk to make a glue.

Take a wonton wrapper, and -- using your finger or a brush -- brush the egg mixture on the bottom and right edges.

Using a rounded tablespoon, spoon the crab mixture into the wonton -- Do no overfill! It's going to look like you don't have enough. You will! Remember, you have to fold these!!

Fold the wontons over into a triangle shape, so that the two wed sides, meet the two dry sides. pinch closed. Either use a fork to flute the edges (and seal them) or you can play around with your boyfriend's kitchen gadgets and make nifty edges with his ravioli maker you forgot you still had from christmas.

Repeat with remaining wontons.

When you run out of wontons, spread on crackers and continue eating.

Preheat oven to 200°

Fill a large (heavy bottom) pot with enough oil to fry with. Heat until oil is 350°, or until your boyfriend starts impatiently tossing rangoons in.

Working in batches, fry 3-4 (or less, depending on how big your pot is) pockets at a time until golden brown and poofy.

Fish them out of the oil and place on a rack with a paper towel to drain excess grease.

Place in the oven to keep them warm, or eat directly from the pan while you fiddle with your camera and have a food-gasm.

Food.People.Want also provides a recipe for homemade sweet and sour sauce, but let's just say there wasn't enough time to finish the sauce before the rangoons were finished off. I'm happy to say however, that we got my cream-cheese-hating-little-brother to love cream cheese again. Mission accomplished? I think so.

Next week I'll be posting the lovely recipe to RedFlag's "Chocolate covered Oatmeal Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies".
So it's been a little over a month since i've posted -- i apologize guys. Things have been a little... well... busy to say the least. We've not only lost Uncle David suddenly, but also been through one hell of a snowstorm (not to mention the added loss of our two guinea pigs and all four babies they'd had...) With trying to keep enough dry firewood to keep the house warm, writing stories, and crocheting like mad, it's been tough finding time to sit down and make a worthwhile post. (but trust me, if you could see my favorites list right now, it'd have you ooh'ing and ahh'ing. i swear!)

So i figured -- why not!? I'll share some of my most favorite sites with you so YOU TOO can squeal like the little fangirls you know you are, and enjoy some kickass D.I.Y's and just pure amazing stuff. (You know, so you can look at stuff in between my rediculously long update periods...)
So first off, i'm posting the wedding-y things. Not necessarily all about dresses, these are tutorials and general "Wow!" articles/sites that have really inspired me in the last few months...

.::||====================||::.

First off, he ever lovely Candycanechild (from Craftster's forums) posted a beautiful tutorial on how to make some unique paper that can be used for STD's, invites, placecards, hell even the programs! (not to mention Valentines, greeting cards, or just amazingly colored paper for all your crafting needs!)

They have a nifty tie-dye type of design to it -- and can you believe it's just food coloring and shaving cream? Check out the full tutorial [Here] and squee over it too so i don't feel like such a dork. (please?)

Second, more paper! Kind of. o.O How many of you are doing STD's? (Save-the-date's) Jim and I are going to do our best to get some out due to the fact that we're having our wedding so close to a holiday, but we have yet to come up with a definite design. (more on that later!) But i have to say, i am in freaking love with these nerderiffic (yes, that's a word...) Space-invader pop-up cards!!

I can almost hear the music beeping monotonously in the background XD. The extremely crafty (and ingenious) Ceep came up with these on my new favorite haunt -- Craftster forums -- and goes into detail about just how difficult the finished product really was to perfect. (Lookit those teeny tiny strips of paper barely holding on to the top 'pixil's'!! Ack. i'd break it every time T.T) But if you think you're confident enough in your cutting skills to make these (or other sprites! I'm sure a mario one would be kickass!) check out the full thread and fawn over her prowess there, or check out Offbeat brides' "Show us" thread here for some more inspiration from the most wonderful girls on the web!

Though i'm not a parent yet, I've become quite enamored with the website "Parent Hacks". Not only do they share wonderful eco-friendly alternatives for everything baby, but they also share some pretty nifty crafts to do with your kids (or for your kids). My current favorite, is Tie-dye tissue paper.

Though you can sort-of see a pattern (haha, a joke!) in my love for all things hippy, i have actually never tie-dyed anything o.O But reading through the tutorial here made me really want to try! Made out of that crinkly tissue paper my mom stuffs into gift bags to make things look bigger than they really are, these beautiful works of art could be used for tons of crafty things! (The website even mentions gift wrapping, although it'd break my heart to see such gorgeous stuff be ripped to shreds!) And be sure to check out the rest of the gallery here where the rest of the fancy images are hiding!

If you're like me, then you've got a ton of art supplies sitting around in boxes and baskets ready to be used in a moment's notice. If you're also like me, they've been sitting there for about a year because you've been saving it for "that one special project!". Well ladies (and gents), Here's that project.

I myself, was given a "make your own candle" kit from the hubbs a few years ago, and simply never got around to doing it. I've got wicks, wax, dye, molds, everything! Just no patience or incentive! I've got candles out the wazoo over here (I may be a candle-phile... not sure if that's a word.) so i never really found a real need to make a bright purple pillar candle all of a sudden. I also -- have a bag of 80 tealights that have only seen the light of day (ironically...) during blackouts due to storms. So this project here gives me a wonderful idea for that unused wax!! Environmentally safe, they're not only beautifully elegant and "chic" but also really frikkin' easy. (the best kind of craft.)

(Also, the wonderful people who created this tutorial have a TON of totally awesome candle/soap ideas!)

Another wicked website "Dollar Store Crafts" is after my own heart. They showcase cheap D.I.Y projects with some pretty kickass ideas. Need something thrifty but elegant for the wedding, and can't afford those $8-a-piece votive holders you saw at Steinmart? Fear not! You can make a cheaper cuter facsimile and who's ever going to know the difference?

Using dollar-tree wine glasses, gift-box takeout boxes, and battery operated candles (because otherwise they might catch on fire o.O) These little votive lamps are adorable and honestly something i never would have thought of until now! A similar tutorial even shows how you can use dollar-store lampshades instead of takeout boxes!

Anyone who's ever even tried to google "weddings" has probably come across those completely versatile Apothecary jars that the wedding designers stick candies and little trinkets in -- right? They're really hard not to miss! Well, the lovely people at Dollarstorecrafts, have come up with a simple (yet slightly smaller) solution, that i'm sure with some ingenuity, would result in some gorgeous glassware! (Unforunately due to my blog's size and my lack of knowledge in how to resize shit, the link to the video is [Here] where you can enjoy it in all it's High-Def glory.)

Again, if you're like me, you love all things girly and frilly. Although i have yet to work these into my wedding, I'm sure if i tried hard enough, i could find a way!

After all, who wouldn't want teeny chandeliers in your own custom colors to hang above each table? Or hell, i'd just hang it up in my room, but then again i'm a dork. The full (awesomely photographed) tutorial is here for anyone interested. <3

Of course i've got nearly thousands of things favorite'd right now, so bear with me as i ramble on about things that may or may not have strayed from the weddingness i first promised. To be perfectly honest, it's hard to keep a blog entirely about weddings -- especially for someone who's never been to a wedding (well, being 2 doesn't really count. i don't even remember being two!) and having only seen wedding shows/books/other websites, it's hard to constantly blog about something you don't really know -- so when i do blog about what i know, i end up with crafts. lol.

I did want to let you all know though, that i plan on keeping the blog alive a little more often. It's a good place to squee about things with other people who understand, as well as show off not only my own achievements in the crafting/wedding world, but those of others! So starting this week, (er... monday i guess?) I'm going to be updating the blog on certain days with certain things, with intermitten posts of geekdom and nerdery in between. <3

The schedule should *hopefully* look like this:

Mondays -- comprised of what i hope to accomplish this week. Usually recipes or the beginning of crafts. Also recaps any weekend crafting/cooking adventures, as well as a couple of websites i may have visited and caught my eye.

Wednesdays -- Complete Geekery. Gaming, Warcraft, Books, anything completely and utterly nonsensical is going here. (There will be MANY many articles/comics going here from my various "dailies" -- comics i read every morning -- as well as exceperts/links from cracked, dorkly, and other fine offbeat places.)

Fridays -- The best of the best. Websites and crafts that have literally made me squee out loud and deserve a friggin' trophy are going here. (I have an entire freaking folder in my favorites i do this with.. no seriously!) So every Friday i'm going to post a few and what i love about them. (Kind of like a spotlight :-D)

Weekends and Tuesdays/Thursdays are my Warcraft-- I MEAN "me" time. Okay, warcraft. I may or may not be completely obsessed with that game.... but that's besides the point!!!

So i hope you guys look forward to a few more updates (and not necessarily wedding!!) though i promise to post some weddingness here and there. ;-) (maybe i'll give it it's own day too?)

I've been super-busy with all sorts of things lately, from the death of two pets and an Uncle, to the raging snowstorm we had here in Indiana. With all of this chaos happening, it's been hard to post things in-between it all!

I promise i'll make it up to you. <3

Stay patient!
Y-eah.... I've kind of gone wild with them this week and completely ignored the blog... i sowwy!

In the process however, i get to spam you all with awesome Arts, right? (nod with me now... "Yesss......")

Firstly, I would like to explain that for those of you unaware, i'm a WoW-whore. (World of Warcraft for those of you confused...). I play a variety of characters (all female, mostly horde) but my main, is a Troll Rogue. Secondly is Abrigale the Belf Warlock, Thrishka the Orc Warrior, Taffeta the Goblin Priestess, and Lokeh the... er... Dranei Warrior o.O (AND my only Ally character. Damn you Jim for loving humans. >.>) Anywyas, i've been planning for like, forever to do a comic of all my family's characters together (Chance -- my brother -- plays an undead, a couple of orcs, and a tauren, and my Mom plays an undead (f), an orc (m) and a troll (m) ). I've been wanting to call it "The Voodoo You Do" after the story i'm writing. (If anyone's interested, wait till the end of the post and i'll pointcha there..)

So with that short (?) explination out of the way, I can now spam you all with fancy arts. (Keep in mind my scanner sucks epic monkey balls and hates dark colors, so these ALL look better in real life as apposed to their sad digital copies.)

Up first, we have the first thing my prisma's ever graced the paper with -- a head/shoulder shot of Illondra:

Not perfect i know, but I'm happy with her. Her shoulders are from no real specific set (not that i know of anyways o.O) and her head's a lil' elongated... but that's besides the point! I'm still thrilled with how she came out. (Keep in mind, that at this point in time, i hadn't found out you could blend them as easily as you could with an eraser/white pencil.... ) And of course, she's missing a braid on the other side of her head, but i couldn't figure out a way to do it without it looking like phantom-braid-from-hell... blargh.

So we move on to one of my brother's characters. At the moment, this guy is his main-alt (if that makes sense?). They call him "Galthrin" and he's an Orc Hunter.

As you can see, my blending got a *little* better in some parts, and completely non-existant in others. I'm completely NOT happy with his mohawk, but that's before i figured out how to do hair. >.> go me huh? His shoulders are from some Hunter set, no idea what tier (he picked them out) and no, he doesn't own them. (though he wishes he did.. lmao). No references were used either! (woo!). Once again, not really happy with it, but then again, when am i?

Now we've come to the dark part in my art history of the past two weeks... I've ... er... found a new hobby. (and by "hobby" i mean "dark twisted sense of what's appropriate for a 21 year old girl to enjoy")

What's this disturbing new "hobby"?

My little ponies.

There, i said it! But i'm not just talking about the kind you buy form the store and play with, i mean the custom ones that people make into stuff! I've seen boba fett, Sam Winchester (*heart!*), baby murloc's, pumpkin patches, Ravers, anything you could POSSIBLY imagine!! And as soon as i can get my hands on a bait pony (ponies that have been ruined/unwanted sitting in yardsales or goodwill, etc...) and some clay, i'm totally making a few of my own B-). Unfortunatly, i don't have a *true* MLP to show off here, (i will soon though... soon....) but instead, i have a horrible picture that gives the cosmos a reason to revoke my nerd-card.

(The first -- and horrendous -- version can be found [here]. But be warned, it's pretty bad... o.O) So yes, i've ponified my troll. ISN'T SHE CUTE!? I thought so. :-3 I also had a blast playing with Jim's comic-pens (made for use with epic lineart making!) The blending looks soooooooo much better in rl. (promise!) but once again, scanner = poo. This lil' beauty has been uploaded to Deviantart for about a week or so now, and already has a rather large amount (er... 29...) of people "d'aww"-ing over her. (it makes me squee!!)

(This of course leads me to wanting to make Celestial steed mlp's, and of course Kodo's and Talbuks and wyverns -- OH MY!) so we'll see how that goes ;-)

Last but not least, I give you the latest piece of work by moi. On Devart, i've joined a group called "World of Warchicks" (See my wicked ID [here]) -- Which is a group of nothin' but female players (just to prove we really do exist... lmao). Now, not all of us PLAY female characters, (nay, quite a few play only males o.O) But they're all wicked artists, or at least wicked-artist-appreciators. Well, they had this newsletter/journal entry that popped up and asked people to sketch up their favorite companions in-game. So of course i drew summin' we troll women be luvvin' almos' more den we be lovin' our men!

Be-be Raptors! Dis' one be what we call an "Obsidian" Raptor Hatchlin'.

What's that? Obsidian = Black? This little guy's BLUE you say?

*kicks scanner across the room*. Y-eah. Any black in the real-life photo was completely removed when it was scanned. It rather pissed me off. But I guess i'll live T.T) He still be cute 'mon!

(If you're wondering why i suddenly broke out into a Jamaican accent, the trolls in WoW speak that way.)

So other than wishing my favorite artist Yapi to get well soon, (Srsly, go check her out, she draws the SEXIEST Troll-men EVER. *drool*) I haven't really been up to much. I've been planning on making Jim a pair of cabled fingerless gloves that he's been asking for for a while now (crocheted of course...), along with some baby booties for a friend of mine's first baby (a girl, due any day now! :-D) and a hat/scarf/glove set for me. *sigh* Busy busy busy....

-Cake42
Cakefortwohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05239612365737711510noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4048857370769187376.post-70919880106731767182011-01-01T16:53:00.000-08:002011-01-01T16:57:02.971-08:00We'll miss you...I find myself in the year 2011 with a heavy heart...

All over the world, people are celebrating the lives they've lived, and that they have survived another year. For many, the new year will bring them joy and happiness. I myself, am looking forward to a year with my beloved Jim where we can hopefully (finally...) leave our parent's behind and strike out on our own. We have both endured hardships to make it to where we are now, and there's definately not going to be any less this new year. Though we plan on beginning some things anew, we still can't forget our mistakes and our triumphs of the past. This last year has been no different.

But this post today is not meant to be about me or Jim. But about David.

When i became a part of Jimmy's family, i never imagined i'd meet such amazingly wonderful and incredibly loving people. His "Auntie" Dianne and Uncle Doug were my quick favorites (that is if i had to choose, lol) and Auntie's father David was no exception. When i first met this man he made me blush as he kissed my hand and welcomed me with open arms into his home (er, porch... it was a barbecue i believe?) Though i'll admit, his thick English accent was sometimes hard to understand, he was still one of the sweetest (and oldest!) men i'd ever known -- such a complete gentleman!
I never tried to pry into private lives, but it was known that David had some physical ailments (as do we all when we are 90-something years old!) and according to Auntie, he had seemed to be growing worse and worse throughout the months. Christmas however, we were all delighted to see him eating and drinking and laughing with us all at dinner -- much perkier and lively than we'd all seen him in ages, and it truly made my day to see him smile and enjoy himself with us! (although i wish i could have seen him open our scarf and hat we'd made him, but i don't blame him for being tired that evening )
Much to my shock, this afternoon i was informed that David had passed away at 2:00 am, just after New Years in the comfort of a hospice. Immediately i fell into tears.

I'm not an extremely religious person by any means, but i do believe that there is a heaven for all of the wonderful people in life, and i do believe David is there now, enjoying himself with his Grandson Jimmy (whom i unfortunately never had the honor of meeting before he too passed away).

I hope Auntie and Doug will always remember him as the wonderful, amazing, kind-hearted gentleman i knew him as -- i know i will.

Rest in peace David.
(it's only the day after the day after Christmas... right?... technically?) I was dragged through town to three different places the past few days and i am thoroughly exhausted! (but it was fun, and who am i kidding... I'd do it again in a heartbeat!) So! other than the annual "naming off all the cool shit i got", I'd like to show off a few things i made.

First off, i made stockings! (i don't have a picture of my dad's just yet... but suffice it to say, it's based off the lamp from a christmas story, i made the pattern myself, and i SUCK at making fishnets even... the back of the stocking looks like a spiderweb shat on it...)

Jim is in-LURVE with Star-trek (the old one to be specific.. the one with Kirk and Spock and Sulu and all them...) so i made him a redshirt that was skinned and turned into a stocking. <3

It was my first stocking ever so be gentle, haha. It was done in-the-round and was a lot easier than i had anticipated! I also made him a sugar-cookie "Redshirt" (which was perfect.. because if he broke in transport, he was expendable anyways ;-) )

(totally not showing off "The Shattering" i got for christmas... XD) Secondly, (the one i'm super-proud of) Chance (my younger brother) asked me to make him a Horde Stocking (from World of Warcraft)

The symbol was a little skewed, because it was worked in-the-round (same pattern as above) but he still loved it, and i'm proud of it :-D (now he wants a laptop case, a scarf, and a hat >.>)

As for Christmas presents with friends, i managed to make two Rainbow hats (not pictured), Two Cowls (Green and Purple, and Jim knitted a blue varigated one, also not pictured...) and then i made a Unicorn hat!

Which Rachel quickly nabbed, haha. (And i'm sorry, but since i based it off of a hat from Deviantart, and i don't know if they're selling them or not, i can't share the pattern, because i don't wanna get sued. it was for a gift, and no money was exchanged, so please don't sue me O.o

As for other Crochet'd schtuff... i finally took a picture of Chloe's scarf to match her hat:

(which she loved btw!<3) I didn't get to snap a picture of her wearing it, but i got her to hold still long enough to wear her hat.

We also made cinnamon ornaments (cinnamon, Applesauce, and glue...), Eggnog fudge, Brownies (Boxed Ducan Hines, nothin' fancy...), Chocolates, Dog Biscuits, Sugar Cookies with THE perfect icing, and a variety of other sweets for the gift baskets.

This poor little guy barely made it! All of the other cookies came out perfect (and unfortunately i didn't get any photos of them... but i planned on doing a blog post about sugar cookies soon anyways since i got some nifty snowflake cutters... so i'll post them then.) But every single one of the Teddy Bears fell apart :-/ damn. (i have a picture of him where i ripped off parts of his body and added red icing to it to make it bloody too... but i'm already overflowing the blog with pictures, so i'll pass on that one ;-) )

(recipes for the eggnog fudge, icing (though i used egg whites instead of meringue powder), and sugar-cookies, can be found above by clicking on the names!)

As for going places for Christmas, we spent a kickass evening at Mitchell's in his basement playing my first drinking game

(I came out with 13 shots in the end, and was dizzy and sleepy, but no worse for wear... and i didn't drink enough to manage a hangover either. Woohoo!) and played a little pool....

(which i lost HORRIBLY at... lol)

Christmas day we headed to Auntie and Doug's to have a very british-inspired christmas with Christmas Crackers (i won a dinosaur finger puppet, and a 1" squirtgun Grandpa Rex suggested i fill with vodka, lmao) and some paper crowns

We had a beautiful dinner with the best green bean casserole i've ever had. It was really awesome having a dinner at a real table with family for christmas! Most of my family is either too busy, or going somewhere else, or my close fam doesn't have a car/health to make it anywhere. After dinner, we opened presents (i honestly wasn't expecting to end up with as much as got O.O but i thank everyone for their kickass gifts.. i'm totally wearing my fuzzy socks. Have i mentioned i have a sock-fetish/collection? lmao.

Doug and Jim (Jimmy's Uncle and Dad) ended up with THE COOLEST hippy Santa statues i've ever seen, and honestly, I'm a bit jealous! Isn't he adorable?

(Can you believe his Nana made those?? I don't know if she actually sculpted them, but i do know that she painted them.)

After presents, we hugged and made our goodbyes and headed up north to his Mum's house for more food (ugh o.o so full!!) and more presents. (it totally made my day that i was the first person Chloe hugged XD).

Once Joe and Chloe showed up, everyone started finishing up dinner (which was equally as awesome -- Pork roast, hobo potatos, Gramma's Mac n' cheese, steamed broccoli, crescent rolls, and gravy). Speaking of crescents rolls, Chloe helped Nana make them! (Apparently she loves to help Nana make the rolls and has her own stool to help out! :-3)

Then Gramma carved the roast beast,

and we ate until we were bursting. Presents ensued under "Petey" the Christmas Palm (Peggy and Jeff bought it for their deck last summer, and brought it indoors for the winter, lmao)

Petey likes to blind my camera...

Chloe ended up with (i think o.O) every Zhu Zhu pet in existance o.o (srsly.. i don't think she's missing a single one of them!). But she had a blast, and it was fun watching her open up all those presents and scream "ZHU ZHU PETS! ZHU ZHU PETS! THANK YOU NANA! THANK YOU PAPAW!" every time she ripped the paper back! (It makes me want my own kids now XD)

We did indeed (despite the weather patterns..) end up with a white Christmas.

Which was awesome. (and i didn't fall this year! haha!)

And did i mention Chloe lost her two front (bottom) teeth? (the first time she's lost a tooth!) So i nabbed a picture of that too ;-) (needless to say "all i want for christmas is my two front teeth..." was sung numerous times.)

Also, i have some pretty big news! :-D i managed to win my very first blog-contest!!! :-D From Lark Crafts, i snagged some sweet felt, and some other goodies!! (which awesome arrived the day after sending my address! O.O i dunno if you sent it out express Thom, but it got her super quick! Thankies again!!! i can't wait to use it all!)

First off, i got nearly a whole box of luscious browns and yellows... it's so soft i can't possibly think of what i'm going to use it for! (although i'm eying a pattern for a heated sleeping mask you put rice in? oooooh yeah... B-) )

Secondly, (sorry for the wrapping still on it, we were in the middle of making fudge and rushing out the door when it arrived!) A felt-a-long calendar! It came with the patterns for every felt image in the book, as well as stickers to place for doctor's appointments, weddings, christmas, and pretty much every other holiday one could think of!! way too cute!

I entered approximately THREE contests this month trying to win this book, and just about danced when i pulled it out. Fa la la la Felt is such an adorable collection of patterns for just about everything you can think of! I'm really looking forward to making the stockings in it next year! (The Joker one is probably my favorite, but the peek-a-boo flowers is sneaking in some love too...)

And last but not least, i recieved several sheets of sample felt in various shapes and colors -- perfect for future orders, *and* for adding final touches to those projects who need spiced up! (the hearts and circles are totally my favorite... haha).

Along with the felt, i managed to collect quite a vast amount of presents this year O.O (much to my surprise! i hadn't been to such a huge family gathering in so long!) So for all the curious minds out there (and for my own gloating purposes...) Here's my annual list of "look what i got!"-ness. (and i only managed to grab a few pictures before my camera died of a battery-related-death...)

On top of a teeny green stocking of candy (mmmm... reeses.....) and a manicure-purse kit from Erika (not pictured) I got everything above from Jim's family :-3 (although i don't quite remember who gave me what now o.o i know a few though!)

From jim's Dad (Jim o.O) I recieved a box of 5 Cranberry-Mandarin candles (mmmmm!), a 30 dollar gift-card to walmart (more on that later...) and a cookbook of "my kind of cooking!" (all recipes are only 3-5 ingredients long, and they ALL look delicious). From Peggy and Jeff (Jim's Mum and Step-dad) I recieved a HUGE box of Caron Yarn in various colors, and three sets of knitting needles to get me started! (woot!) along with three scratch cards, with which i won 10 bucks! The fuzzy socks (which i'm TOTALLY wearing right now!) are from Auntie and Doug, as well as an adorable guardian angel keychain (this woman knows me... i collect socks and key chains... i think she's stalking me!) A chocolate orange (which i busted my knee trying to open thismorning, lmao) and another manicure purse! (aww... this one has kisses on it! I love the little stand-up mirror too. My nails shall never be horrid again!) She was even so sweet as to think of Taffeta and Purl this christmas, and bought them their own bag of Carrot treats!! Nana and Rex gifted me a kitchen towel (one of those kinds with the knitted top, so you can hang it off the stove handle) and a "Pumpkin Butter" Reed diffuser that is currently wafting through the living room making everything smell purtyful.

I think that was it. (If i got your names wrong guys on who gave me what, i apologize! leave me a note and i'll fix it! <3)

As for Home-gifts, Mum and Dad bought me a brand-new Dell Laptop, and an LED mouse that glows blue and red (which shoots purple lights up onto my cieling! :-D) and "The Shattering" ! the next book in the World of Warcraft line :-3 Of course they bought Chance and i the new Expansion for WoW "Cataclysm" and i'm currently rocking a lvl 26 Goblin Shadow Priestess B-)

Grandpa gifted me a basket of yarn, some new crochet needles, and three beautiful bracelets with little rings and shiny bits on them i can add charms to :-D -- and of course Tiffy and Purl were from Jim ^.^

With the gift-card, i bought P, Q, and J crochet hooks, Three skeins of yarn (two small green and yellow cotton bits), and one purply-pink fuzzy stuff for Jessie's baby girl. (they're *hopefully* going to be a hat and booties, unless i find another pattern soon..) a Strawberry-Banana Sobe (because hey, i was thirsty o.O), and a 3-pack of WoW cards, that ended up in 9 UDE points, 2 more hero cards (an undead affliction warlock, and a dwarf priestess), a primal shadow, and a primal earth, along with other various cards of awesomeness. So all-in-all i made out like a bandit this Christmas! But i think the best gift, was being able to celebrate it with so much family this year! I'm so glad i was able to make it, and even got to see Uncle David (Auntie's Dad) perk up and have a good time with us too :-3

In short, i hope all of you had a wonderful christmas :-) I hope you all got what you asked for, and nobody ended up with coal (unless it's the bubble gum/chocolate coal... that stuff rocks, no pun intended! lol). Happy Holidays to all of my wonderful readers... and as soon as i ebb out of my stocking-candy-coma, i promise i'll update with a few more crafty bits for you all, and possibly some more stuff on the wedding!
(not by much though, they don't like to stay still o.O)

Meet Tiffy and Purl, (short for Taffeta and ... er... Purl? lol) My twin panda hammies :-3

Both were born on October 14th of this year, and (except for two minor details) are completely identical! Tiffy, has white under her chin that continues onto her neck (but you can only see it if she's sitting up, so when they're running around it's hard to tell...) and Purl has half-an-ear! O.O

Jim surprised me with them as an early Christmas present this year! :-D Though neither of us noticed Purl's ear until two days later T.T -- it doesn't seem like a fresh wound, so it seems she's had it for a while... (and being in a gigantic tank at our favorite pet store with 50 other hammies, it's bound to happen to a few of them T.T) But it doesn't seem to bother her at all, and it definitely makes telling them apart a LOT easier, haha.

They love to do everything together -- especially their wheel! Though pictured here, their cage looks rather plain -- it was how they were delivered to me, and hadn't been spiffed up yet.

This is how their cage looks now :-3 -- still small, but they seem to love it ^.^ We plan on going to our favorite pet store and checking out their end-of-the-year sales and see if we can't nab another cage or two so they can be separated later. (As much as i love seeing them together, i've been warned by people from forums and websites alike, that syrian hammies will start fighting eachother pretty soon... so i'll have to get them apart before the end of the year T.T) And of course i have a playpen for them (again, nothing fancy... but i just got them this week XD) Everything in there is re-used toys from our previous hamsters Elphie and Squirt (but since they both passed away in their cages mysteriously (although most likely from old age... they were both 3-4 years old...) i washed the HELL out of those toys/pen so if they died of anything catchy, it wouldn't spread.

They *love love LOVE* the yogurt treats their daddy bought them (and so do i ... they smell so strawberiffic i'm about to try one myself >.> lol) but last night we gave them some lettuce (i know i know, it can be dangerous, but there's no additives or anything and it's locally grown anti-pesticides and all that junk, and i'm not feeding it to them every day...) and a few various ham-safe-nuts left over from decorating Christmas stuff.

Tiffy, (seen above) is super outgoing and hyper, and would probably have an anurism if i took the wheel out of the cage o.O seriously. I have to hook it to the top of the cage (so it's on it's side kind-of...) just so she won't run herself to death o.o. Although she ends up climbing up the sides of the cage and monkey-bars across the roof so she can sit on the back of the wheel and play King of the Mountain... lol. Too adorable XD i'll have to post video of that later...

Purl (seen above as well...) is much more shy and calm (and chubbeh...). So far, she seems to love to cuddle and sit in your hands inquisitively. The bell-moon-thingy (that was origionally a parakeet toy...) is her favorite object in the whole cage (2nd is the wheel when she can elbow on with her sister...) and it's so frikkin adorable to watch her hold onto the bell, grab it with her teeth, and then shake the hell out of it XD she'll do laps around the cage and then do it again! lol.

They're by far, one of my favorite Christmas gifts, and they're just too cute to fully explain :-3 when i can get some better light, i'll have to post some videos of them performing their antics ;-)

<3
Cakefortwohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05239612365737711510noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4048857370769187376.post-8464509922217385772010-12-17T12:18:00.000-08:002010-12-17T12:18:38.233-08:00Tis the season to be busy as hell... Fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra, ra RAAAAAA!
It's no lie that with Christmas looming around the corner, most people start baking and cooking, and preparing for the holidays! Our kitchen, is no different. However, we're different in the fact that we've made pretty much nothing Christmas related... XD (Yet! wait for next week... >3>) But i figured i would catch you all up on a few wonderful things we've been up to.

First off, for those of you who haven't checked out "Cakewrecks" you need to! This blog/site has kept me awake for the past three weeks while i browse the archives and giggle/facepalm my way through some of THE WORST decorated cakes in history.

Heck, i even submitted one myself this time:

Yep. I think it's supposed to be half-a-Santa. (The evil half-brother to Santa... *da dun CHI*) made of course, out of cupcakes. (or as Cakewrecks so-lovingly named them, "CCC"'s or "CupCake Cakes" ick...) Anyways, i found him (or whatever's left of him?) at my own local Walmart whilst perusing the wonderbread.

Don't get me wrong though, Cakewrecks posts some pretty wicked stuff on there too! You guys know me and my love for food and pretty things... Well, they have a "Sunday Sweets" blog post (every Sunday... dur...) where they showcase some UH-MAZE-ING cakes that are anything but wrecks! In fact, one has me absolutely swooning at the sight!

Isn't it gorgeous??? It's from the outstanding cake-baker from "The Secret of Our Dinner" (a Bulgarian cake/food blog with a unique twist on almost all the cakes). I love the pearlescent sheen to it, as well as the drippy snowy icing, the delicate teeny snowflakes, and of course the oh-so-adorable fondant deer on top :-D too cute! but that's not the real reason i'm drooling over this cutey...

Check this out:

Do not adjust your screen. Blink if you have to...

Are you seeing it?

Yes! That's right! those layers are going the wrong way! They're friggin' vertical!!!! How amazing is that!? :-D It has a perfect icing-to-cake ratio, and it looks absolutely stunning! (not to mention unique as heck!). Wondering how on earth they did it? Well, (if you can decipher the google translation...) they made a tutorial (it's about halfway down the page, but they explain how to do basic fondant flowers, fondant, and all kinds of their amazing techniques!) <3

Can you believe this cake is basically a giant jellyroll?? And just look how easy it seems o.o!!! (no doubt when i go to try it though, it'll be too dry, and everything will crumble and fall apart... haha. but hey, i can try!).

Jim and I are thinking about trying it for the wedding cake maybe! (So of course i'm going to post all of our failed/successful attempts up here XD)

But as for things WE have baked, i give you the following:

This one is entirely Jim's creation... living in the boondocks of Indiana, we've come across "Indiana-only" foods of course, but this one was a first o.O "Indiana Sugar Cream Pie". Think about that name for a minute, and tell me you don't picture a granulated sandy textured pie... like condensed milk with sugar added to it o.O... but he made this following some youtube tutorial with a 100-year-old woman, and it turned out divine. it's a creamy smooth sweet concoction that actually surprised me.

This one, was also Jim's idea, but i made the crust XD -- it's an entirely Strawberry pie :-D (no Rhubarb...) and it was amazin'. Slap on a dollop of whipped cream, and we're i business! <3

These are "butterscotch white chocolate chip cookies from "Not So Humble Pie"-'s recipe :-D They were crunchier than expected, but they were still tasty! (in hindsight i probably should have stuck them in an airtight container with a slice of bread.... but that's besides the point.)

Of course with Christmas drawing ever closer, i've started getting our annual christmas cards from family and friends, and even a few early christmas presents :-D (woot, stuff!). My parents have already let me have a sneak at mine and my brother's matching laptops (Dell with Windows XP -- able to play all those games i missed, while still having the ability to be fully upgradeable cheaply! woohoo!) and then of course, Jim snuck me in something he just couldn't keep hidden until the 25th......

Hamsters! :-D (sorry about the blurry bleh pictures... it was late, and my bedroom has a lack of overhead light... so all i have is a floorlamp that hates me with every fibre of it's being... so i had to use flash and it sucked.

They're two month old black and white panda hamsters (me rub you rong time?) and are practically identical twins!!! (they came from the same litter too :-3) Seriously, if it weren't for the teeeeeeeeeny tiny details, i wouldn't be able to tell these two hammies apart! Luckily, Taffeta (the one in the ball) has white on her chin and leg, is hyper and outgoing and would probably have an anurism if i had to take the wheel out of the cage, and Purl (like Purl-stitch?) on the right by Jim, has a bite taken out of her ear (which we didn't notice until two nights ago T.T poor baby!) and is fully black on her chin and stomach. She's quiet and reserved, shy, and loves to cuddle -- so much calmer than her sister. But they're my new babies :-D Now i just have to find them a metal wheel to replace the plastic thing in their cage, because it's noisy as hell and keeps us awake at night. boo.

Unfortunately, i have yet to snap a picture of Declan's finished green hoodie (all it needs is edging and buttons, but we just got the buttons yesterday, and i have yet to decide if i want GIANT multi-colored buttons of awesomeness and cute, or white pearly buttons that remind me of a pretty cardigan... but yeah :-D as soon as i get the buttons on, i'll take a picture and slap it up on here. <3

Well, i've decided this year (since i've discovered how to crochet >:-D) to make stockings for everybody! Dad's is a malgamation of two stockings, but is basically a woman's leg with a black-and-red garter at the top that moves into a fishnet'd leg, ending in a bright red heel. The pattern is my own, so if everything works out right, i'll post it up here and on Ravelry :-3

In the meantime, i've just-about finished Jim's stocking (a redshirt star-trek stocking knitted in the round <3). All it needs is the grey cuff, and the gold com sign. My younger brother Chance -- like me-- is a total WoW junkie. (For the Horde!!) so he's been begging me to make him a "For The Horde" scarf (with double Horde symbols on each end) since the chill of winter first danced through the air -- so naturally he asked for a stocking of true anti-alliance fashion:

The chart i'm using is my own, and scaled down from the scarf version (done in tunisian), but this is simply a single crochet worked in the round. The cuff is alternating SC and HDC. (and i have SOOOO MANY ENDS to weave in!! D: >) It's got about 10 more rows, and then i get to start the heel. (yay... >.>) But at least it's pretty. ;-)

My and my mum's stocking will be done in Granny-hex's in alternating colors i have yet to decide on. (though i'll probably try and use up some of my self-striping stuff.)

And speaking of WoW, i've been screwing around in Photoshop for a while, learning how to use some of the basic stuff, and started forming a reference photo for my character Illondra for a (hopefully!) upcoming comic.

Here's the WIP of you're interested :-D

I've since added a glove to the hand on the left, but other than that, she hasn't gotten too much further. But for my first time in photoshop, i think i've done pretty damn well! (and for using a mouse nonetheless! no fancy schmancy tablets here! (although i'm dying to get one T.T .... just sayin'... lol) you can visit my [deviantart] account if you want to see more updates on her. <3

Well, i hope you're all having a wonderful Holiday Season! :-D Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and a Happy Holidays to the rest of my wonderful readers and their respective celebrations. <3

(read: "I was completely bored and decided to look up fancy Venues in Indiana we could check out...")

And i found a few wonderfully amazing places! I'm serious, some of these places are drop dead gorgeous! Unfortunately, (Just like every other venue...) they're hella expensive. T.T

The first one we came across, was the Sisters of Providence (Better known as: Saint Mary of the Woods -- yes, it's a college too.) and honestly, it's beautiful there T.T i've been there ever since i was little and i remember being in that hall a few times with my Great Aunt (Sister Georgiana) and i'm honestly head over heels for it.

(the pictures don't truly do it justice i know... but just look at it!)

Can you believe how many people can fit in there?? o.O that looks like a thousand people! The windows are fabulous, and there's (once again) soooooooo much roooom! I'd feel so close to my great aunt there it'd be rediculous...

Only one problem... It's a church. er, sort-of. The hall is part of a girl's college/dorm and the Sisters of Providence Church/nunnery. (yes nunnery is a word.. type it into your own text box, it doesn't have a squiggle under it, lol) Anyways! My point is, it's part of a Catholic Church -- and i'm not too sure they'd be super fond of Jim and I have a ceremony there that didn't mention God, or had anything Pagan about it... :-/ So unless we could manage to get a wicked discount on it, there's most probably *no* chance of us getting it. But, just for S&G, i calculated the approximate costs:

Firstly, there's the menu: [Here] In which we would offer (probably) the Glazed Ham Station, Chicken Cordon Bleu, or the Stuffed Green Peppers as a vegetarian/vegan alternative... Sides? Ugh. i gave up reading a long time ago. As for drinks? We'd most likely serve Hot Cocoa and Apple Cider (both 16 servings per gallon).

With (estimated) about 150-200 people coming to the wedding (we have yet to truly define a list and haven't even sent out invitations yet -- don't get yer panties in a bunch aunts and uncles! you'll get one! be patient!!) it would cost us.... uhh..... *taps calculator and pulls a few levers as a machine whirrs in the background*

Ham carving station -- 6.95 (per person)
Green peppers -- 12.25 (per person)
Chicken blue -- 16.95 (per person)

hot cocoa (per gallon) 0.65 = 37.05
Apple Cider (per gallon) 10.25 (wtf!?) = 584.25

(if everybody has 6 drinks of one -- yeah, because that's average sure.. i'll keep telling myself that... ) that's 57 gallons per drink

10 veggie -- 122.5
70 ham -- 486.50
70 chicken -- 1186.50
(totally BS numbers i split in half and counted all of our vegetarians)

Total: (and not including side-dishes)
$2,419

Y-eah.... that's... a lot. o.O wonder if they'd let us self-cater? Lol.

Well anyways! :-D moving on!

Secondly, I managed to find *THE* dream venue o.o

"The Indiana Rooftop Ballroom"

This place would seriously be the one i would want David Tutera to plop in my lap and go "SURPRISE!" it's seriously that nice o.o I mean, just look at it!! it's set up for a freaking theatre show! I'm giddy just thinking about it! haha.

Could you imagine walking up the aisle just like this lovely couple?? Like you'd be stepping on stage for a grand performance... the place is HUGE, and yet glamorous at the same time! *sigh*

Ugh. unfortunately i can guarantee you that since they don't post prices on their website, it's going to be *WAY* outside our budget, and catering ourselves would be totally out of the question o.O That'd be like bringing your grandmother's casserole to the Emmy's or something, lmao.

But still... *wistful sigh* a girl can dream, right? haha. Ah... the search continues...

I made it to 50 posts!)

Time for an uplifting happy post, because dammit i need one!

Okay, first things first, as a few of you can probably tell, i updated the blog's look again. I had some complaints from people on my facebook, that they couldn't read the text very well against the bright effing green background. So after some googling, some rum, and eventually giving up and going to Bing, i found a premade template i was happy with. It's christmassy, it's not too complicated, and damnit ya'll can read the text. (er, i hope o.O)...

.:://==============\\::.

Welcome to November 15th, my 21st birthday :-) I was actually able to spend it with family (and my grandpa. I think it was the only birthday he'd ever been present for? but that's another story...) We had a few troubles that involved timing, bad weather, money, and the ability to find a bottle of white rum as two people who *never* drink, but nevertheless, it was still awesome.

First off, I got to have Grandpa with me! :-D yay! (He gave me a lovely silver and gold diamond necklace in the shape of a key)

Secondly, as you can see we had Papa John's Hawaiian pizza for dinner. OM NOM NOM

Okay okay... and a few drinks. But just a few.

(No really, those four glasses in the front? that's all i had all night. I had a shot of vodka and gagged, a shot of Rum and gagged, a screwdriver, a slow screw (lmao), and then we couldn't find rum, so we mixed a glass on the left of Raspberry Dacquiri mix with vodka (and gagged) and then poured out half the vodka and added more mix and STILL gagged. the only things i liked, was the things with orange-juice in it. go figgur.

Then Mum made my birthday cake this year :-3 It's Orange cake with Buttercream icing, and decorated to look like tiger lilies (which are totally made from Icing, and Orange Smile gummies which are my fav. candy that doesnt contain chocolate XD) It was nummy.

Jim and I went out the next night to buy my first drink, and we had THE COOLEST waitress ever. She was all giggly and bubbly and then served me this gigantic beast:

Yeah. I ordered a Strawberry Dacquiri. o.O THAT'S what i got. (And Jim's tiny Non-alcoholic Dacquiri in the background XD). See where the blackish blue swirl on the monster martini glass ends? that's about where i got it down to before i gave up and said "CAPPIN' WE CAN'T HOLD N'MORE!" and began nursing a brain-freeze. But the Chicken strips and fries were amazing. (Because DUH who doesn't like honey mustard!?) And i totally drew an Owl with crayons, because i'm awesome.

We then tried to sneak a furry critter home as a birthday gift, but couldn't find anything in our price range to get. But i did get this adorable picture/story from the hamster section that makes me giggle.

These little guys (there was like, 80 of them i swear...) had all managed to squeeze themselves into the green plastic house to the left, leaving only three or four of them running around to eat and play on things and make me squee at them. So i asked Jim if he could lift up the green house and i could see the (presumeably like, 3...) hamsters inside and see if i could pick one out from those instead -- and LO AND BEHOLD! the thing was PACKED with tiny hamster bodies, to the point where when he lifted the house, they were still in the shape of the house. I giggled like a madman, before picking up like seven of them and snuggling them. We didn't end up taking any home though. *pout*. Maybe christmas XD

Last but not least, we decided to go indulge in my second guilty obsession.... books. So we packed up our sheet, got into the car and drove across the parking lot (hey it was cold...) to Books-a-million where we proceeded to see some totally wicked shit that came in book form. Including these babies:

Yep. That's a World of Warcraft book. and Yep, i'm a geek. (I ended up buying the first one XD) but I still REALLY want the first one, and the Shattering. (but really just the Shattering...). Christmas plz? :-3

.:://==============\\::.

Also, more updates later when i manage to find my camera cord in the depths of my black hole i call a purse. <3

-cake42
Cakefortwohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05239612365737711510noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4048857370769187376.post-45836378296098430652010-12-04T09:20:00.000-08:002010-12-04T09:20:22.712-08:00Dear November and December...(This was originally posted on OBB, but i decided it was neither asking for advice or giving advice, so i took it down and decided to post it here.)

Dear months of November and December,

Please go die in a fiery ditch somewhere and NEVER resurface again. Please?

Why? You ask? Let's recap this for the people, shall we?

Death has visited my family twice in the past 4 weeks, taking not only my Great-Uncle (who was one of the greatest men that ever lived...) but also his grandson. (In my family we have a sick twisted "rule" that never seems to fail... when people die, they go in threes. ever since i remember, this "rule" has never failed... and as soon as one family member dies, two more go within two months.)

My Fiance has been in THREE car wrecks. (Okay, one of them was four months ago, but the last two were these past two weeks and only one of them was his fault.) One of them was just this morning! Can we NOT have my beloved be the last in my family's sick rule of 3!? That'd be great!

My Cockapoo had another major grandmal seizure thismorning, and we have yet to figure out what's causing it (his second this year)

The person i was buying my first car from gets arrested for drug-related problems, and the car is siezed. Nice...

I've had to deal with the rudest most Inconsiderate people, as they call or show up unannounced at the most inopportune moments. (3:00 am? SURE, come on out and bug me for no apparent reason! I'm not, y'know sleeping or anything!). Why? Because my dad's playing Santa for their kids, or they have some kind of stolen memorabilia they're wanting us to buy for Christmas to "help their families out" and won't take "NO" as an answer...

On top of all this, my body is riddled with bacteria to the point where my MRSA is acting up again, and my finger is looking quite necrotic at the moment and i'm hoping against hope it doesn't fall off.

It's literally taking everything i have, to keep from crumbling into a fetile position and sobbing until next christmas.

So if you're wondering why i haven't posted that often this month, That's why.

I do promise however, that as soon as I can (or as soon as this bottle of rum is gone...), I'm posting pictures from my 21st birthday last month, as well as the various cooking/baking/etc we've been up to.
We need some happy things on this thread anyways. <3Cakefortwohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05239612365737711510noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4048857370769187376.post-26859926486898806362010-11-19T21:34:00.000-08:002010-11-19T21:34:23.912-08:00Om Nom Nom Wedding! With the Christmas season drawing ever nearer, the thought of "what on earth am i going to serve to these people!?" has occurred...

Well, first off, we've pretty much decided on doing a semi-potluck thing. (meaning we're providing the main meat and drinks and of course the cake and some desserts...) and everybody else can bring sides and vegan/veggie friendly meals. But now i'm dumped with the idea on what to serve as main dishes and such. So this is what i've come up with for ideas so far:

Since i have some weird problems with beef -- (let's just say we don't get along, Beef and i.... at all.... nor does most of my family on my dad's side) we're probably not going to serve it at the wedding. Those who were coming and looking forward to steak or something -- well, you're screwed. sorry. But i figured since it's going to be a Christmas wedding, why not have a christmas ham?? Why not decorate a big ham (or two... have i mentioned our familes are HUGE?) with the pineapples and the criss-cross, and the maple syrup, brown sugar, and ... and.... *drools*.

Yeah. you get my point. haha. But it'd be a simple easy thing we could come up with without having to send out cards going "beef, fish, or chicken?"

As for those who are Vegetarian/non-pork-lovers, i have no idea... i honestly only know 3 vegetarians, and the only food i've eaten from them is usually scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, or muffins baked in halfed-oranges (not counting all the ridiculously awesome brownies/blondies/cookies we've made...). While all being amazing and awesome in their own special "hey-i'm-spending-the-night-feed-me" way... they're not exactly wedding fodder... o.O I'm hoping to talk to these vegetarians and see if they'd be loving enough to bring something, or at least help me figure out how to make "it" on a larger scale... lol. (i've had suggestions of zucchini Parmesan, or a "seasonal vegetable stew" etc. but still not sure yet...)

Side dishes? i totally know what Jim's Nana is bringing. she's not even allowed to choose XD (ok, not really... but i'm going to probably beg her...) but she makes this UH-MAZE-ING baked Mac n' cheese and a corn souffle that is frikkin' out of this world. Her food is literally one of the main reasons i go to their annual fourth-of-July party, lmao. I know Grandpa is wanting to make potato salad (which is totally fine, as i would eat that stuff with a dirty stick off the sidewalk...)

Now for the fun part; the desserts!

I remember growing up and thinking "why would anybody want any other desserts when they're obviously serving cake!?" and then i came to realize, that everybody loves sweets, and that it will be freaking awesome to have things like cookies and brownies WITH your tiny slice of cake. What kinds of things are we making? well, it's not set in stone, but i'm sure the following list may have some major input on the subject:

[White Chocolate Pumpkin Pie Cups] (like Reese's cups, but filled with holiday joy instead of sticky peanut butter...)

[Holiday Meringue Cookies] (These will probably be offered in peppermint, and *maybe* hot chocolate... as the blueberry would just be awkward o.O)

[Peppermint Patty Cookies] (because sandwich cookies are teh smex)

[Eggnog Fudge] (What's a holiday celebration without eggnog!?)

[Peppermint Bark (cookies)] (okay, i'd probably just have the peppermint bark... but the cookies make it even more tempting...)

[Chocolate Covered Pretzel Wands] (these things always look so freaking ADORABLE when they're dipped in sprinkles and gooing white chocolatey goodness....)

[Christmas Tree Cake Pops] (and of course, Bakerella has once again inspired me with her too-frikkin-cute-for-words Christmas tree cake pops. Tell me those wouldn't look adorable on the end of a peppermint stick?)

That list will most likely grow i'm sure, but for now, those are my main inspirations for dessert-ness-ness.

Although there is one more thing i'd like to address before i end this really-long update... and that is drinks.

Every party i've ever gone to offered only a few choices.... either Sprite/Mt. Dew mixed with some kind of fruit juice crap, or booze and soda. Wow... what a memorable... er... refreshment station... >.> not.

I want my guests to feel like "wow! they really put thought into all the details! this really does feel like christmas!" instead of "pass the generic beer i'm bored." So i'm adding one more list... the refreshment list. (which of course will most likely change too.)

[Butterbeer] (i may be a harry potter nerd, but i also love this drink -- AND it can be kid friendly! booyah!)

[Eggnog] & [Eggless Eggnog] (in case we have some who are egg-allergic like my baby cousin <3)

[Mulled Wine] (one of the things i've always wanted to try, was Gluhwein (spelling?) from Germany... unfortunately i've never been there, nor do i know a place to find it here in the states where it could be authentic and shipped... but i've heard Mulled wine is close, so maybe we'll see!)

[Jelly Shots] (i want it to be a party! who says you *have* to drink wine and champagne? Plus, these would look adorable layered as green, clear, and red.)

[Hot Chocolate] (We're hoping to have a make-your-own hot chocolate/cocoa bar, where you can pick up a pretty pristine white mug (or maybe christmas-themed ones? i dunno...) and customize your toppings and flavors with things like whipped cream, butterscotch sauce, fudge sauce, homemade marshmallows in peppermint/chocolate/vanilla flavors, peppermint stirring sticks, etc! we have this whole bar thing planned out... just gotta perfect our hot chocolate recipe, and then find something to keep it hot that doesn't look totally generic >.<)

And of course, the cake. We're going to be making it ourselves, completely homemade! (because caterers here in this podunk town either suck, or you have to order them from Indianapolis and then they're expensive. >.<) and because we love to bake. So we're hoping to make something a cross between these:

(red velvet marble cake -- click [Here] for source)

and

But -- as always -- things are likely to change. <3

Of course, suggestions are always welcome from ya'll. :-3

I am SO FREAKING HAPPY! We originally had our wedding planned for October 25th, 2012 -- as we're both *total* Halloween NUTS. The only problem is... we wanted our wedding to be more Elegant than Kiddie Party... well, as you can see from my Inspro board below, there wasn't much to choose from o.O I mean, i thought i found my dream dress... but the more i look at it, the more I'm thinking "wow... this wasn't anything i wanted" there's no lace... the color is there, but subtle... and i *hate* veils, which honestly is the only thing i could picture on that dress.... and as you can tell, the only "decorations" I've seen, was pumpkins o.O

Intro to this dress:

I don't remember *how* i came across this dress, but it was a few days ago. and i fell. in. Love!

I've always loved the romance of Christmas... the deep red (which i focused on for my Halloween wedding), and golds, the stark whites and furs (albeit fake, since i refuse to wear real due to allergies AND morals...), the forest greens (favorite color!), and silvers... i love the idea of fires on the hearth, and hot cocoa and cider (or eggnog!), and all the shiny wonderful glowing lights!

*sigh*

Well, When i first brought up the idea of a "Christmas" wedding to Jim, he said "Meh, everybody does those..." and we worried about Holiday confusion.. (Halloween, My Birthday, Niece's Birthday, Thanksgiving/His mom's birthday, Yule, Christmas, New Years) but then again, we'd have the same problem with a Halloween wedding XD

But this inspro board... did it.

(click [Here] for bigger)

After i posted this, telling him it was for a "friend" on OBB (*giggle* I'm mean....) his jaw dropped. "WOW that's nice!" "Isn't it?!" and with a little tweaking (including the color of his beloved Kilt he wants... lol) he was busy finding me pictures of Christmas weddings and spitting out ideas for this thing like there was no tomorrow XD

There was no tapping of a pencil on the end of his fingers going "hmm... what else other than pumpkins and leaves?" there was no "what's an "autumn" food that's not thanksgiving?" or even a "where could we have a bonfire that's not a public park!?"

It was amazing! we've decided to get it as close to Yule/Christmas as we possibly can -- which is even more awesome since most of our family will be in Indiana for the holidays! woot family!

On top of all this, i've had a HUGE thing about trying to figure out how to tell my father he wasn't going to walk me down the aisle... We may have fixed that with this whole idea! See, he plays Santa for kids who are low-income and their parent's can't afford to buy them presents, or very few presents. he works soley off of donations... he's been *dying* to get a new santa suit, as his old one is well... lacking... (click [here] to see "santa") He suggested though, that he dress up in his *new* santa suit we're getting him for next year, and he'll walk me down the Aisle as santa... Check out *new* suit (yet to be ordered) here:

(picture is from [Here] -- an AWESOME santa-anything store!)

I feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted from my shoulders and my creativity can finally flow into all these wonderful things!!

*sigh* I.R. happy camper. ^_^
I've suddenly become aware of a few people who actually do *read* this thing! :-o -- however you're all naughty things for not leaving me comments :-P

So i've been thinking about things to post on here...

I've covered my dream dress, talked about veils, mentioned all the crafty things we concoct... but i've officially run out of things to say o.O So you know what? i'm going to start doing inspiration boards every week. (or two weeks... or month. we'll see how long my memory span is... and see how long i can keep it up.) First off, i'm posting one for my own wedding. (I've tried to reference as many things as i can, however if i've missed giving the correct links to the appropriate photos, please leave me a message so i can give them the credit that is sorely due. <3)

Since we have decided that our wedding will be as close to Halloween as humanly possible (while still allowing our flowergirl and my bridesmaids to go trick or treating XD) i've managed to toss together a few basic inspro boards. Enjoy!

First off, Food porn!

(Click [Here] for bigger)

(chocolate skulls/cakepops/caramel apple) (Little Shop of Horrors Salad)(Ghost Brownies/Caramel apples/truffles/Pumpkin Goodie Bags)(eye jello shots / Caramel Corn Jello Shots)(Candy Corn Cookies)(Caramel Apples/Chocolate animals)(Black Lace Cake*)(Orange Chocolate Cake)

* = this is the SITE i got it from... but if you know the original creator, it would be awesome if you could give me a link to their origional picture...

I have to admit... now that i cite all the websites, i realize i'm REALLY into Caramel Apples... but that just leads to the fact that i want a Caramel Apple Bar/Smores Bar (if we can find a place that will allow us a bonfire..) for the dessert area! It'll be awesome... there will be Apples (red and green of course) pre-skewered, and then a big warm pot of Caramel and/or Chocolate, and then have a way to drizzle chocolate/Caramel over them, and have little bowls of crushed peanuts, cashews (oooh fancy... lmao), Oreos, Reeses Pieces, as well as various others -- but those are the main. It will be awesome. Also, as for the cakes at the bottom... i LOVE the simple wavy orange icing on the one in the middle... the chocolate shavings on top are just so sweet and simple... nothing too fancy :-) i love it. But at the same time, If we go for a "screw the fancy schmancy icing tricks" and do fondant and piping, i'd so totally do the black lace on white fondant! it's stunning!

Once again, you get to see the shoes i'm DYING to own... this time accompanied by the other very halloween-y accessories, and of course, my dream dress! The two chokers on the left, are just too amazing for words... the one on the bottom has a skeleton for a cameo -- how frikking sweet is that!? and the crystal spider in the bouquet is just a perfect touch... i *heart* the idea of striped stockings instead of pantyhose or barelegs (especially since it will be FREEZING outside o.o) and although i'd *love* to have a dragonfly somewhere in the wedding (in memory of my step-grandfather Bud Schimmel) i may not be able to wear it as a necklace. but we shall see. that one up there though, has stolen my heart!

I would show you all deco porn, but i'm getting sleepies, and can't seem to find half of my references... *grr* so once i can track them all down with my awesome google-fu skills, i shall post it up as well. (and probably find a little more to add to the collage since it's kinda bare and it's mostly a bunch of pictures of pumpkins in various forms! lol.

Anyways, i'd love to hear your comments -- those of you still reading. It's nice to know when you're being paid attention to... lol.

Lovingly yours,
(considering this is more a craft-blog anymore than my wedding-blog... but you'll all live i'm sure, haha.) Anyways, i'm SUPER EXCITED!!! (insert high-pitched ecstatic fangirl squeal here) because i've found... THE Dress!

Yes, the dress that makes you go "ZOMG!" the dress that makes you tear up when you look at it... the dress that most little girls rip out of their big sister's bridal magazines and tape to the insides of their binders to dream about for years to come... (well, except i've never done any of that... i just scour the interwebz for days.... okay maybe months.)

Since we decided on a Halloween Wedding, (black, white, green, red, etc. etc. etc.... classy but spooky and all that creepy wonderful stuff) I decided -- on a whim -- to google "black wedding dress" and took my chances with it's iffy image search.

The angels began to sing!

On the very first page, i found it. It was a tiny image, but it was there.... glowing like a beacon in the night!!! (okay, yeah i know... google images are now ALL on a front page... but that's besides the point. XD) Jim found it at the same time as me and went "oooh... pretty...." so i right-clicked and put "open in new tab" to forget about it until later. about 400 black/black & white dresses later, i came back to it. I don't remember the exact website i first found it on, but nevertheless, it was beautiful....

So what dress have i fallen head over heels for???

Maggie Sottero's "Vincenza" -- (and it comes in a size 28!)

(and the beautiful back)

It comes in "Diamond White", "White", "Diamond White/Oyster", "Diamond White/Ruby", and of course, "Diamond White/Black"

*swoon*

There's not a single thing i don't like about this dress! It has the black, the embroidery, no bling, the train, the corset back, sweetheart neck, the perfect amount of ballgown-meets- a-line, everything! :-D

Now all i need is $1,300 dollars.... *pout* but i've got a little under 2 years to save up damn it! that dress will be mine! lol.

Pairing this up with accessories however, is going to be even more fun than discovering the dress! ;-) Custom ruby slippers are already decided. Now i just have to spend countless hours looking for the perfect jewelry, and hair accessories :-D yay! (and bouquets, and garters, and stockings, and--and--*head asplodes*) lol.

Okay, i promise to breathe.

Maybe.

-Cake42
Cakefortwohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05239612365737711510noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4048857370769187376.post-91919458582944220122010-10-15T15:51:00.000-07:002010-10-15T15:51:28.381-07:00Okay, maybe i lied... XDI lied. We're not going on Hiatus, i just had a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge case of writer's block, and complete denial, lol.

After much talking with the future-hubbs about the wedding, we've decided that, you know what? we don't care what everybody thinks about the wedding. I don't have to wear a white dress and a veil and we have to have a pretty cake with flowers and everything has to be normal.

We're going with our origional plan, but slightly tweaked.

We're going all-out Halloween bitches!

So yeah... lol. We've always loved Halloween. it's the one time a year you get to dress up as sexy, as terrifying, as cute, or as bizarre as you possibly can, and get to patrol the streets (with or without gathering candy, although that's totally not a bad thing...) and people won't stare at you strange, or call the cops on you! It's truly the one night of the year (or in our case, month...) where you get to show your true colors, so why on earth shouldn't our wedding be any different?? after all... we're both coming out to our families that we're pagan, we're shoving normalicy out the window with our pagan cerimonies and all... why not go all the way? We're going black and orange baby!

Though we still want to keep the elegant feel to it -- after all, it is a wedding... (lmao) -- and we're not going to have people come in costumes or anything. We've been trolling the internet all day today oohing and ahing over gorgeously terrifying tablescapes and wedding dresses with -- *le gasp!*-- black in them. (and i've fallen in love!!!) So i thought i'd let you guys all know what's going on ;-)

Keep in mind, (not that anybody's complained or left a comment in aaaaaaaaaaaages... lol) that posts are going to continue to be a little sporadic until i get things under control. i've got a LOT of crocheting i'm working on, and a lot of baking and sewing and other "girly" things to do. But i shall catch you all up on it. i swear. mebbe...

That, and i totally just re-organized all my bookmarks and favorites again so i'm not going "oooooh... where's that one picture i saved from that one website i wanted to post on the blog???" and then getting distracted by shiney zombie shoes and horror photo shoots... XD

So here we are.... I shall update with some frikkin' weet inspro boards as soon as i figure out how to use the bf's photoshop program. ( I. R. paintshop pro nerd....)

Hope you're all as excited as i am ;-)
